ECE 4413 / AME 4383 Robot Tracking and Capture Project

‘Robot Target’ Specifications

Objective:

To build an autonomous robotic vehicle capable of detecting and trapping a target robotic vehicle. The target vehicle is a remote controlled vehicle equipped with an infrared (IR) beacon. The target must be captured by latching on to the target’s crash guard for a period of 10 seconds. Alternatively, the target can also be latched on to by means of a device similar to a fishing net.

The target robot is a track-type vehicle with a drive motor for each track. The motors are controlled through reversible drive electronics and have identical characteristics in the forward and reverse directions. The robot is outfitted with IR and visible light beacons to enable the tracker to track the target. The vehicle chassis is enclosed in a hemi-spherical body that is 22 inches in diameter and 5.5 inches tall. The beacon electronics is mounted on top of the body in a cylinder 6 inches in diameter and 4.5 inches tall.
